What Is New Rome?
New Rome is an empire, a brotherhood, and a military civilization within Second Life.
We are a group in the Second Life Military Community, often called the SLMC. That means we build, train, patrol, recruit, raid, defend, and take part in the long-running combat culture of the grid. We fight in-world battles, create military systems, develop uniforms and weapons, raise bases, form alliances, and meet our enemies on the field.
But New Rome is not only a combat group.
New Rome is history.
The Empire traces its origins back to the early grid, beginning with the first imperial age under Darckk Trilam in 2006. Across many years, New Rome has passed through ages of conquest, collapse, exile, rebuilding, and return. Many groups have come and gone. Many banners have fallen. Rome endures because Rome is more than land or numbers. Rome is continuity, loyalty, and purpose.
The current era is the Obsidian Age, the age of restoration under Lord Dreadspyke, Emperor of New Rome. The Empire now rises again through the labor of its soldiers, builders, scripters, archivists, officers, allies, and recruits.
What We Are About
New Rome believes that the grid is better when people build things worth remembering.
We value activity, discipline, creativity, loyalty, and brotherhood. We welcome those who want to take part in something larger than themselves, whether they come as soldiers, builders, scripters, citizens, diplomats, artists, historians, or curious wanderers.
Some join to fight.
Some join to build.
Some join to learn the history.
Some join because they want a place to belong.
All roads lead to Rome.
New Rome and Warhammer 40,000
New Rome is strongly inspired by the gothic military atmosphere of Warhammer 40,000: vast empires, sacred machines, armored legions, cathedral-fortresses, banners, rituals, and the eternal struggle of civilization against darkness.
That influence can be seen in our style, our armor, our architecture, our propaganda, our Mechanicus, and our taste for grand imperial theater.
At the same time, New Rome is its own Second Life empire. We have our own history, our own Emperor, our own laws, our own Book of Time, our own battles, and our own legends.
Warhammer gives us a language of scale and atmosphere.
Rome gives that atmosphere a home on the grid.
The SLMC and the Grid
As an SLMC group, New Rome exists in a world of allies, rivals, enemies, neutral neighbors, old grudges, and new friendships. We do not expect every group to agree with us. We do not expect every faction to love Rome.
Conflict is part of military life.
But conflict does not have to mean hatred. At its best, the SLMC gives people a reason to create, compete, train, fight, improve, and return the next day with a better weapon, a better base, or a better plan.
New Rome fights because struggle gives meaning to the banner.
Our Enemies and Our Allies
New Rome has enemies, as every true empire does.
Some oppose us on the battlefield. Some oppose our return. Some remember old wars. Some fear what Rome may become again. We accept this. An empire without enemies is only a museum.
New Rome also has allies, friends, guests, and respected rivals. We honor those who fight cleanly, build seriously, speak honestly, and contribute to the life of the grid.
Our goal is not to make the SLMC smaller.
Our goal is to make it alive.
We want more raids, more bases, more stories, more soldiers, more builders, and more reasons for people to log in.
The Emperor and the Empire
New Rome fights in the name of the Emperor.
The Emperor is the heart of the Empire’s command, identity, and continuity. Under His banner, Romans serve the greater purpose of the Empire: to defend Rome, expand its glory, preserve its history, and bring order, strength, and spectacle to the grid.
To serve New Rome is to stand beneath a banner older than most current factions, carrying forward a story that has survived for years across many eras.
Rome does not ask for perfection.
Rome asks for loyalty, effort, and the will to rise.
How to Join
Those who seek New Rome may begin through the Sacred Processing Benches, by speaking with Roman officers, or by visiting the New Rome lands in Tremelo at the Neptune Complex.
Visitors are welcome.
Recruits are watched with interest.
Enemies are remembered.
Brothers are never forgotten.
Whether you come for combat, history, building, faith, technology, or the strange glory of the grid itself, New Rome has a place for those willing to be shaped by something greater.
The Empire has returned.
The forge is lit.
The banners rise again.
Glory to the Emperor. Glory to New Rome.
